Top training conditions can be found at the Mölltaler Glacier from September onwards. The perfectly groomed compact snow slopes of Carinthia’s only glacier ski resort is where stars of the international ski circuit meet to get on form. Large scale expansion of snowmaking facilities means that snow-sure conditions can be guaranteed from 2,200 to 3,122 metres above sea level. Many international World Cup teams take advantage of these excellent training conditions, including the Austrian men’s team (with Marcel Hirscher), the Swedish women’s and men’s teams (with Jens Byggmark), German men’s team (with Felix Neureuther), the Slovakian women’s team (with Tina Maze) and the Italian women’s team (with Denise Karbon). The challenging FIS race course is used by the skiing nations for training during the last week in September and first two weeks in October. The sun terrace of the Panoramarestaurant Eissee entices you linger and soak up the sun. Carinthia’s highest conservatory at the edge of the glacier is where both pro-athletes and amateur skiers bolster flagging energy levels with traditional Carinthia cuisine – and savour views of the 30 three thousand metre peaks belonging to the Hohen Tauern. There is always time to get an autograph, when you are sitting at the table next to Austrian’s shooting star, Marcel Hirscher. At 3,122 metres above sea level, Mount Mölli is one of Austria’s most snow-sure glacier ski resorts on the southern side of the Alps. The world’s largest ski resort test portal, skiresort.de, has named the Mölltaler Gletscher as top ski resort. Top marks were awarded for the snow-sure conditions, grooming, choice of slopes and back country terrain for beginners, experts and freeriders. The 17 pistes are divided into 6 easy (blue), 8 medium (red) and 3 black for the crazy freaks!
